Nomination Period

Nominations for the position of councillor will be accepted by the Returning Officer from the day the nomination period opens (Monday, June 12, 2023) until the nomination period closes on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at 12 p.m. Prospective candidates filling their nominations must schedule an appointment with the Returning Officer.

As per the Local Authority Elections Act Section 10, within 48 hours of the close of nominations on Nomination Day, the Returning Officer shall post or cause to be posted at the local jurisdiction office the names of all candidates that have been nominated and the offices for which they were nominated.

Election Sign Guidelines

Election signs must be removed by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, August 18, 2023 as per the City of Wetaskiwin Land Use Bylaw and the Government of Alberta Guidelines for the Installation of Election Signs.

City of Wetaskiwin Logo

The City of Wetaskiwin logo and images cannot be used by individuals outside the City of Wetaskiwin organization as per the Municipal Government Act (MGA), Section 559. 

Unauthorized use of heraldic emblems Section 559,  No person may use the heraldic emblem of the municipality or anything that is intended to resemble the heraldic emblem without the permission of council. 

Important Dates for Candidates

  • Nomination Period closes at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, July 18, 2023. 
  • The Municipal Candidates Forum will be hosted by the Leduc, Nisku, and Wetaskiwin Regional Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Best Western Wayside Inn (4103 56 Street, Wetaskiwin).
  • Election Day is Tuesday, August 15, 2023. Campaign funding disclosures are due on or before Wednesday, December 13, 2023. 

Time requirements if elected

  • The morning (and possibly afternoon) of the second and fourth Monday of each month for council meetings
  • Regular board meetings depending on which board(s) you are appointed to (could range from monthly to once a year)
  • Annual strategic priorities planning
  • Annual budget deliberations
