"Play in the Park" is a free 1.5 hour drop-in recreation and art program for children 6-12 years of age and is supported by the City of Wetaskiwin and Wetaskiwin Regional Public Schools' Mental Health Capacity Building Program (formerly HUB). This program will be facilitated by youth leaders and supervised by the City of Wetaskiwin and MHCB staff. Activities may include sports, fun challenges, relays, large-scale board games, drama, arts, crafts, and more! Please note that transportation and snacks are not provided.
NEW for 2017: Play in the Park will be offered in the afternoon (1:00-2:30PM) on July 28 & 20 as well as August 1 & 3. Play in the Pool is a new program that will be offered on Wednesdays as well this summer!
Q: Who is the program for?
A: Any children ages 6 -12.
Q: Where do I register for the program?
A: This is a drop-in program and registration is not required; children are free to come and go as they please.
Q: What should my child look for when they arrive?
A: We will have a tent with a banner that says “Play in the Park” on it. We will also have a sandwich board(s) set up at the park the day of the event.
Q: What is the drop off/pick up routine?
A: As this is a drop-in program, your child can come to the park at any time and leave the park at any time. Our staff will be on location beginning at 10:00 AM until 11:30 AM providing activities. Please note that we are not providing childcare.
Q: Who are the leaders?
A: The leaders will be youth leaders ages 12-18. Leaders will ensure that participants play safety and will be easily identifiable by their brightly coloured shirts. Parents are responsible for their children at all times and must be available in the event of an emergency.
Q: Who will be providing the activity?
A: The City of Wetaskiwin and MHCB will be providing staff to support the activity but leadership and direction of the activity will be the responsibility of the youth leaders.
Q: What will my child need to bring to participate in the activity?
A: Please have your child dressed appropriately for the weather that day. We will provide water and all the supplies necessary for any activity we do.
Q: What do I do if the activity is cancelled for the day?
A: We will have signage in place on the day of the activity if it is cancelled. We will also have a staff member at the location until 10:20 AM to inform every one of the cancellation. If the event is cancelled we will not have alternate activities available.
