Alberta Crime Prevention Week (ACPW) helps Albertans work together to prevent crime in their communities. The 2013 Crime Prevention Week will take place from May 12-18.

People who look out for each other help make communities strong and vibrant. When you know your neighbours and other members of your community, it is easier to identify and solve community issues together.

““Crime Prevention Week reminds us that we all play a part in keeping Wetaskiwin safe. Locking your doors, keeping valuables out of sight, and speaking to your family about ways they can enhance their personal safety all help keep our wonderful community safe, strong and proud,” said Mayor Bill Elliot. “I thank everyone who has contributed to reducing crime in our community, and I sincerely hope this year’s Crime Prevention Week will empower many others to engage in, and promote, crime prevention in their homes and businesses. By cultivating awareness and working together, we can continue to reduce crime and create an even safer Wetaskiwin.”

Check out these crime prevention tips:
• Have a family member or close friend check your home while you are away for an extended period of time (inside and out).
• Record serial numbers on high-end items.
• Lock your car and keep all valuables out of sight.
• Lock the door of your home whenever you leave.
• Do not leave valuable items lying around your yard (front and back).

Stay safe, Wetaskiwin!
