[ARCHIVED] Seeking Members-At-Large to Serve on City Boards

board room

Are you a civic-minded person who would like an opportunity to serve on a City Board or Committee? The City is now accepting applications for members-at-large to serve on the boards and committees noted below (terms vary in length, but can be appointed for up to three years):

  • Wetaskiwin Library Board (up to four openings)
The Wetaskiwin Library Board organizes, promotes and maintains efficient library services. Board meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month, and committee meetings are held as needed. Of the four (4) openings, one (1) is for a member-at-large from the County of Wetaskiwin, and three (3) are for residents of the City of Wetaskiwin.

  • Subdivision and Development Appeal Board (up to two openings)
The Subdivision and Development Appeal Board reviews and makes a final decision on development applications or subdivisions which have been appealed. The Board operates independently and is considered “quasi-judicial”. The City will make training available to any new member. Training involves a one day course and exam. Hearings are scheduled as required, though they are generally infrequent. Preference is given to residents of the City and County of Wetaskiwin, or those owning businesses in Wetaskiwin.

  • Local/Composite Assessment Appeal Board (up to three openings)
The purpose of these boards (LARB/CARB) is to hear and consider property assessment-related complaints. LARB/CARB meet annually when required and in any given year there can be many, few or no complaints to be heard by the Boards. Each Board member must attend and complete a mandatory four (4) day training program and successfully complete an exam. The City pays expenses and honorarium for members to attend training and hearings.

Though this opportunity is open to any eligible adult resident of Alberta, Council will give preference to City of Wetaskiwin or County of Wetaskiwin residents, as well as those who own or operate businesses within Wetaskiwin when considering applicants.

Interested? Complete an online application form! For more information please contact Lucien Cloutier, City Clerk, at 780-361-4459 or lucien.cloutier@wetaskiwin.ca

Applications for the above Boards will be accepted until Wednesday, December 12, 2018.
